Last Chance to Enter the VJ Competition!

The deadline to enter the official Together Festival VJ Competition is fast approaching! Be sure to send in your application by tomorrow, May 5th, at 8:00 pm EST for a chance to win some of the great prizes at stake. The top VJs will be awarded with prize packages (including full software licenses from ResolumeMadMapper, and Modul8) and will perform in a live competition on Tuesday, May 14 at Naga, where a panel of judges will select a winner. Click here for more information on how to enter.

We have put together an impressive panel of judges from some of the best VJ talent in the area. Check them out below!

VJ Bonk
Jon Bonk, curator of the live VJ competition, is the resident VJ at Elements, the Phoenix Landing’s weekly drum & bass night. Bonk has been working in the visual arts for over 10 years and has an impressive resume including performances with artists such as Noisia, Bonobo, Afrika Bambaataa, at festivals including Identity Festival and Burning Man. In 2010, Bonk toured with Shpongle on his National Tour and subsequently helped create the ShpongleTron. He also is a Director of Firefly Arts Collective, a regional Burning Man non-profit annual festival in Vermont.

Brian Kane
Brian Kane is a world-respected visual artist and Cambridge resident. He co-founded the Emergency Broadcast Network in 1991, a multimedia performance group that pioneered the use of live visuals as performance. EBM is famous for bringing their live video sampler performances to the Lollapalooza tour via TVs mounted atop a Chevrolet Impala; creating a video album consisting of remixed Gulf War footage; and opening U2’s Zoo TV Tour. Kane is also responsible for creating VuJak, the world’s first video sampler.

Robert McElaney
Robert McElaney, an accomplished designer and VJ in the Boston area, is Together’s Art Director. You’ve seen his graphic design work featured all over Together materials. His creative design agency, Ctrl Alt Design, focuses on web and graphic design, and most recently helped raise over $18,000 for Boston’s One Fund with his #BostonLove t-shirt design. McElaney is resident VJ for both CVLT, the twice-monthly dark electronics party at Middlesex Lounge and Machine, and Factory, the monthly industrial night at Machine.

NightRide Visuals
NightRide Visuals is a VJ and lighting team in the Boston area, whose visuals can be seen weekly at ThrowedSunday Groove, Duplex, Bijou, and The Greatest Bar. Started by Jay NightRide at Throwed in 2010, the team has since grown to include four VJs, two graphic designers, and a web tech, who collectively perform live visual experiences and create visual DVDs. They are resident VJs for a long list of Boston-based event companies and night clubs and have performed visuals or custom lighting alongside artists including Tiesto, Laidback Luke, Dillon Francis, Designer Drugs, Pendulum, and Alvin Risk.

VJ vKa$h
vKa$h has over 10 years of experience as a professional visual artist, including body art, videography, photography, sculpture, advertising, stage design and installation. As a VJ, vKa$h has performed at private rooftop parties, high capacity clubs, fashion shows, and car shows throughout the US and worldwide, alongside artists such as Avicii, Roger Sanchez, Soul Clap, Rob Swift, AfroJack, Robbie Rivera, HardWell, Dada Life, and Alesso. In Boston, vKa$h has performed at venues including The Ocean Club, Bond (Langham Hotel), Boston Symphony Music Hall, The Larz Anderson Auto Museum, SPLASH! Ultra Lounge, The Middle East, and the House of Blues.
